NEW YOUTH CHOIR TO FORM IN SEPTEMBER 2010!

The Choristers

This new ensemble for MAM’s youngest singer is open to all children in grades K-2 and is a unique opportunity to introduce children to the love of singing in a choir.

Children’s learning will focus on vocal exploration and beautiful, healthy unison singing while learning a variety of folk songs from around the world. They will sing in many different languages and learn to read an octavo. Through Kodaly and Dalcroze methodologies, the children will learn how to read rhythms and sing using solfege. Weekly lessons are filled with pitch matching games, singing, and dancing. This ensemble is a non-performing group, but it will have an opportunity to sing in annual spring concert with the other MAM youth choirs. This “prep” choir will also allow for a smooth transition to Cappella choir, where two-part singing is introduced.

The choir will meet from 5:00 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. on Thursdays from September through May at the Arts Center on 7 (adjacent to Minnetonka High School).

To participate in this choir, dues and activity fees will be in the $300 range.

The Choristers' director, Kelly Newell, specializes in working with young singers. She has been working with children’s choirs for over 15 years as a music educator in the Chaska school district, at area churches, and as MAM’s Cappella Choir director. She also teaches private voice lessons out of her home.

We are proud to add this new ensemble to our comprehensive youth choir program which allows children to broaden their horizons in the beautiful world of singing.
