Job Description
TITLE: Conductor of the Minnetonka Civic Orchestra
REPORTS TO: Music Director
HOURS: 4-6 hours/week
COMPENSATION: Honorarium
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership for and oversee implementation of the Civic Orchestra program
- Conduct all Civic Orchestra rehearsals on Monday evenings. (7:30 pm to 9:30 pm)
- Coordinate, execute and conduct all performances (4 - 6 per year)
- Work with the Office Manager, Orchestra Manager and Music Director to plan and execute all Civic Orchestra activities
- Attend all required Civic Orchestra and MAM meetings
- Annually plan and provide the MAM Office, Orchestra Manager and Music Director with a complete concert schedule for each year by August 15
- Annually provide the MAM office with a complete music budget (due April 15)
- Provide leadership in the growth, development and advancement of the Civic orchestra.
- Work closely and harmoniously with the staff, Orchestra Manager and other conductors in MAM
- Provide the Civic Orchestra with an emotionally healthy, loving and nurturing environment
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in instrumental music or equivalent
- Minimum of two years experience conducting orchestras
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well
- Strong public relations skills and the ability to engender community support for the Civic Orchestra
- Commitment to the artistic and community philosophy of Music Association of Minnetonka
- Broad knowledge of orchestral repertoire
